USA: Vertical Farming Coming to West Louisville

The West Louisville FoodPort has received preliminary approval to receive state tax incentives for a $23.5-million indoor farm that promises to hire 40 new workers in West Louisville. Up to $400,000 in state tax rebates helps offset the proposed investment by Chicago-based FarmedHere to construct and operate a 60,000-sq.-ft. vertical farm cultivating 10 rows of USDA-certified organic greens and herbs in hydroponic beds under lights. Construction is expected to begin by August on 24 acres of land at 30th and Market streets. “This new location will bring us one step closer to reaching our goal of building vertical farms in 18 cities,” FarmedHere CEO Matt Matros explains in a press release.
