The British onion industry has survived another potentially catastrophic weather challenge. Now a distant memory, the unheralded cold spring left British onion growers fearing the worst as the longest day of the year approached. Crops were several weeks behind normal development as they approached the crucial tipping point of changing light stimulus. Thankfully, Mother Nature preformed its normal balancing act by delivering an exceptional July that tipped the scales back towards a more normal crop performance. With hopes improving, growers remained concerned that the late start would push harvest into a more autumnal and condensed harvest period in October.
