UK: British Glasshouses Optimize Energy Flows

Plant production is positively blooming at Pinetops Nurseries, one of the leading producers of pot lilies, after the firm moved into new, purpose-built facilities near Efford heated with the help of a 999-kW Binder wood chip boiler that was supplied and installed by biomass experts Wood Energy. The new site offers greater room for expansion along with modern updates, including a 2.2-ha glasshouse block. In the past, the cost of heating the glasshouses for the firm’s autumn poinsettias meant limited profitability from the crop, but by expanding production and replacing gas heating with biomass, the economics are expected to be greatly improved. The 1,000-kW Binder biomass boiler provides base heating for the facility, maintaining ideal growing conditions all year. (Source: hortidaily.com)
