In 2012, the Rouses Market location in downtown New Orleans developed an aeroponic urban farm on its rooftop called Roots on the Rooftop, which has provided a steady source of herbs and vegetables for both the grocery store on the main floor and in the café. At the end of 2013, the rooftop garden began testing different nutrients in their system. Kevin Morgan-Rothschild, CEO of Vertifarms in New Orleans, enlisted the help of Fleur de Lis Hydroponics to test their MyGrowPonics brand of nutrients at the rooftop garden. Initial tests have had incredible results. The MyGrowPonics brand is now the preferred brand for the nutrient system moving forward. Roots on the Rooftop was among the first to use aeroponic techniques on this scale in the New Orleans area. As word and curiosity has spread, more local businesses have become interested in the urban gardening experience and many have started to develop their own systems for growing.
