After a successful inaugural event last spring, The Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture 2015 is set to take place March 9-10 in Abu Dhabi. The upcoming event will cover the entire agricultural spectrum, with a particularly strong focus on Climate Smart Agriculture. Post-harvest technologies and food waste, water, aquaculture, indoor agriculture and crop protection will also be key themes for GFIA 2015. “Agriculture is a cause of climate change, but is also part of the solution if sustainable production measures are adopted,” says steering committee member Dr. Joel Cuello, a professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering at the University of Arizona. “For GFIA 2015, we are looking to showcase ‘triple win’ technologies that can help achieve food security and mitigate the effects of climate change.” Last year’s GFIA showcased more than 150 sustainable agricultural innovations and attracted thousands of attendees from 61 countries.
